Is what the title says possible?

Can I play GW's on my laptop from my desktop PC with out having to do a full install onto the Laptop?

OR

What is the easiest/fastest way to get my GW files from my desktop PC to my laptop so I can play it there?
The problem being that the Desktop files are current, if I do an install on the laptop using the game disks I'll be hitting updates everytime I port somewhere.

Once I copy the GW folder over to the laptop how do I do an install?

just download gw from the site and then copy the gw.dat from your pc to laptop.

Don't forget to copy your build templates over, too.

Edit: Which would be in the GW folder if you copied the whole thing... so nevermind. Reading is teh roxor! *sigh*

Actually, if you copy the whole folder onto the lap top, I don't think you need to do an install. I think you just need to put a short cut to the gw.exe file onto your desktop or start menu, which ever you prefer.

No, you can't just copy the shortcut - each machine needs a full install on it. There are a few things you need to be aware of when copying a GW folder from one machine to another.

1. Change the resolution/AA inside GW (F11) to something your laptop supports before copying. I always change it to 1024x768 with no anti-aliasing. If you don't do this, it's possible that GW will not save your new resolution settings on your laptop and you'll need to set it every time you go into GW.

2. Copy the entire folder.

3. Double-click GW.exe. It will ask you where to install, just accept the default location (which will be where you copied it to).

4. Modify the desktop shortcut to include -perf (useful for the next step).

5. Start GW using the desktop shortcut, change your graphics settings to native resolution, play with other settings in a reasonably intensive area until you have a playable frame rate.

I have 5 machines in the house that regularly get GW played on them (not 5 accounts though ...) so whenever there's a major update I get it on one machine, then copy the folder to all the others using steps 1, 2 and 5 (except of course I know what settings are needed on each machine).
